My Miniot Wheel 2 finally arrived, but does it deliver on the promise?
Просмотров 350 тыс.2 месяца назад
The Wheel 2 is a highly sophisticated record player. In many ways it is a modern day reimagining of the compact linear tracking turntables Technics made in the 1980s. It includes features such as linear tracking, direct track access, auto speed Selection as well as speed and tracking compensation for off-centre and warped records. However it's definitely not for everyone... Manufacturer's Websi...
HDMI via a Cat6 cable works surprisingly well
Просмотров 153 тыс.2 месяца назад
If you need to route video around the house - your best option might be to use a dedicated Cat6 or Cat5e cable. NOTE - This is not a networked Ethernet connection - with these specific adaptors you can't send the HDMI signal via a router, a switch, an Ethernet over power-line connector, a WiFi transmitter, etc - you're just using a Cat6 (or CAT5e) cable as a substitute for a HDMI lead. I KNEW you must’ve had a lockup!!!!
Sharp might be the king of overcomplicated but cool mechanism on old hifi components. Shame that they where behind the competition in Quality.
Mat definitely showed his Moxie in this video.
Many of my friends had Boom Boxes. Only to find out they were a waste of time and money. Except the one my Brother and another friend had that were basically portable studios. Both having internal mics and external microphones jacks. They could record all our rehearsals and shows with them. But many of these lost favor because walking around with these cinder block size deaf machines cause hearing damage in one ear. Or annoying looks from people around you.
What about the yorx bp1000 I had one and the top player pulled out and used as a walkman
Thanks for the upload. I remember my brother giving me his old 'Sharp WQ-T23x' boombox. Unfortunately the tape deck died shortly after so I had to attached a Walkman via the 'mix/mic' input. Later on the radio died too; I opened it up but didn't have a clue how to fix it so it was sadly scrapped. No electronic experience at the time and pre-world wide web.
I did used to make and share mix tapes, and with most machines, when you hit STOP while recording, you'd get a click or worse. Instead, you hit PAUSE and the edit would be silent. If you have to pull tapes, you are way more likely to get that noise on your tapes, and a mix tape with pops and clicks on it was nowhere, man. Your credibility went down the toilet. You'd be better off taping from your Walkman to a tape deck.
I always thought you were taking the piss with this 'Hip Hop' line but you're serious aren't ya !!....cheers.
My parents bought me one in 1986. When making a mix tape in order to queue the desired song I used to switch over the cassettes to use the FF deck. The first model had playback teething problems and it loved to chew up tapes. I remember we had to return it for a part update.
I still have one of these and a VZ2000 crying out for restoring. The VZ2000 might go on ebay but the postage would be incredible.
I love all the extra context you give for the time these products came out, it certainly helps paint a proper picture. And great work on the outdoor shots and great framing!
I remember smash hits magazine from the 80's that had a really small plasticoated paper record ..never seen one since.
Seems like it would make sense if tape 2 recorded to tape 1
You should have a TV channel as well....cheers !
I had one of these back to back machines, it was awful as it chewed up a lot 9f my tapes. I even 2rote to sharp and complained and they paid me to replace the tapes.
anyone else notice the moxie hat?
I had 1 in the late 80s ,,bit of a gimmick but the sound reproduction was not bad with the bass boost mode
Interesting mate 😁 I was born in 81 so I remember absolutely massive technology. It was pretty rubbish thinking back haha.
I had one of these. Might have been panasonic. Probably bought at Tandy or Dick Smith for sure. It certainly wasn't good quality, that's what I mostly recall. I think I spent more time with the back open trying to fix the damned thing
I remember those. They came to stores few months before CD players. I have Sony combo boombox that was $400 1992ish Canadian. Double tape top Sony model was $700, $1500 today’s cdn$.
Great video as always. I had a Philips D8734 Boombox in 83-4 ish, as used by James Bond in View to a Kill. I also used it for early hip hop tapes, mostly from pirate stations in London like Invictor. lt was great for pause button mixing & you could just about beat match two tapes & crossfade between them (& record a mix on to another tape machine) It was a good quality machine but the touch sensitive buttons failed in the end.
Even just looking at it, the combined mechanism was, as you say, going to compromise things compared to separate, dedicated decks for the cassettes.
Love the beautiful scenery!
Moxie hat! That's a funny drink
Very interesting. I had a Radio Shack SCR-8 from the gray plastic era, probably made by Hitachi, that was a solid performer although basic. I was disappointed in my black plastic Sony with a CD player because it sounded boomy and hollow.
back in the day i worked in a shop, licensed for sharp warranty repairs. those decks were just horrible. fiddly mechanics without any benefit. if tapes got stuck on the capstan, users in panic used to destroy the doors. full logic units like sony walkmen were complicated too, but they achieved something by that. and there were more resilient to tape salad.
Bought one of these a few weeks ago at a flea market. Needed an FM radio so the back to back was an unintended feature. I know it's a Sharp but I don't know the model number other than it has a third speaker pointing upward near the middle of the unit.
This is not a boombox, it's a ghettoblaster. Boomboxes are from the late 1990's and have bigger bass then ghettoblasters.

2:44 love that tracking shot, and all the outdoor scenes that are in different locations, angles, benches or poses lol
Well done, sir!
Chocorat egg-u-cleme dlinking...
Thanks for sharing.
I miss the puppets at the end
Thats wild! Never saw this. Extremely excellent cast. ✌️❤️🙂
Also - they are PAIN to work on. These mechanisms just weren´t good. No. This wasn´t a good product.
The designers clearly assumed that no one would ever want to do anything but a straight copy of the entire tape.
My mother had a JVC like the one you showed after the giant Sharp thing. Really nice that it had an auxiliary input and a digital tuner.
I had this one
That brings back some memories and have been waiting years for them to be covered. My dad had that model, if not the model up from it (I remember it being bigger but I was a kid in the early 90's). It was funny at party's watching the drunk people go to put a tape in and get very confused about which slot it went into and inevitably getting it wrong and everyone wondering where the music was 😂
Really liked the editing and the new locations on this one. Was just a nice new thing
Great video and your demonstration convinced me. Love the hip-hop look. 👍🏻
Don't worry, the whole experiment has proven to be an absolute disappointment in Sydney Australia if you live 30km from the cbd. Constant drop out (if you are lucky enough to secure the signal in the 1st place), and continuous electronic noise is all you get. The digital TV is no better, and with the cessation of analogue signal now it means we've travelled back in time to the 1950s a quarter a way into the 21st century. Absolute effing joke.
12:22 still playing Electro 4 (and 1 2 3 5 tailed off a bit then) now. Great choice.
What a palaver! 💀💀💀
Good grief, 17 minutes of video and you missed the whole point! Using only one capstan there is no doubling of the Wow and Flutter in a copy!
My mum had that boombox, she eventually gave it to me but as someone who made lots of mixtapes, it was definitely more hassle than a traditional dual deck. Great concept though.
Never knew the Bimbo-Box machines had a TEFI player; as a kid, when visiting a local warehouse-store, there was this machine on the upper floor we kids were 'dumped' at, while (grand-)parents were doing the shopping and we would put in a lot of quarters hearing- and watching the Bimbo-Box played. Always wondered what the audio-source would've been. Being a TEFI tape, came as a surprise to me. The Nostalgia hits hard with this one. Thank you, Mat.
Very convoluted setup, I’m glad I never had to deal with one. I always made mix tapes on my home stereo, still have a bunch in a drawer somewhere.
I owned a Sharp WQ-CD15 back in the day. I can remember getting it out of our catalogue (was the only way I could afford it as it was expensive). Was a decent bit of kit sound quality wise, apart from I seem to remember having issues with playback speeds of cassettes that you could tell just were not right. I think the catalogue replaced the one I had, but I can't remember if the replacement suffered the same cassette playback issue. Sound quality wise I can't remember anything beating the Hitachi 3D Super Woofer (or whatever it was called). I can remember plugging in my personal CD player into it as the Hitachi did not have a cd player. Was an absolute lump to carry around.
The side handle one is a bit of a weapon. They sound far out, though do need new speakers. I repaired one and fitted Alpine car speakers. I'd definitely give it 10 outta 10.
